Realme 3 – An Impressive Budget Smartphone
India has become a major attraction for smartphone makers. Brands like Xiaomi, Samsung, Vivo, Oppo already in the race to grab the most on this market. Realme has emerged recently into this market and able to grab a tiny piece of the market in less than a year. This is not by chance or fortune of luck. Realme has earned his spot.
Within a year, it has released the third generation of its signature series. After being an independent brand, Realme only focused on the budget range. After the remarkable success of Realme 2 series, the company has announced their latest series.
Within a year, it has released the third generation of its signature series. After being an independent brand, Realme only focused on the budget range. After the remarkable success of Realme 2 series, the company has announced their latest series.
The company announced the Realme 3 at an event organized in New Delhi. We have seen a lot of teasers before the release and the tech geeks have waited for the official release.
Let’s see whether it a successor of the Realme 2 or having something new.
Realme 3 comes with many upgrades and new features. Let’s see the detail features of this phone.Realme 3 detail features
Design
Realme series phones come with the plastic body design. Realme 3 also retains the streak. But Realme surprises with the colors. The dynamic Black and Radiant Blue paint jobs distract you.
It uses a unibody design the curve on the sides is sharp enough to provide for some grip. It is made of durable plastic with a glossy finish that gives the phone a premium look. It comes with a weight of 175g, and with the dimensions 156.1 x 75.6 x 8.3 mm. It will perfectly fit the palm and is comfortable for one-handed use.
Let’s the physical overview of the phone. The display of the phone is 6.2 inch IPS LCD display with waterdrop notch. Realme 3 has a lower HD+ resolution screen. The right side of the phone contains the power lock-unlock button. There is nothing on the top side of the phone. On the left side of the phone has the volume up and down button and SIM tray. The tri-slot can take two nano-SIM and one microSD cards.
The bottom side of the phone contains speaker grill, loudspeaker, micro USB port and your favorite 3.5 mm audio jack.
On the back side of the phone, you will find the vertically aligned camera unit. It has a dual camera setup with LED flash. The whole camera unit setup is humping just a little bit. The fingerprint scanner is also at the back side of the phone.
Display
Realme 3 has a 6.2 inch IPS LCD display with waterdrop notch. Realme 3 has a lower HD+ resolution screen i.e 720 x 1520 pixels. We shouldn’t expect too much from a 720p resolution in this price range. The display is protected by the Corning Glass 3.
The waterdrop notch doesn’t eat into the content while consuming video or playing game. The display comes with a 19:9 aspect ratio. The “chin” at the bottom of the screen is quite larger. But it is not a big deal, especially not for this price range.
Camera And Sensor
As a successor of Realme 2, you can see some camera upgrades. Realme 3 comes with dual rear camera setup. The camera unit also comes with a LED flash.
It is a combo of 13MP + 2MP camera. The 13MP primary camera f/1.8 lens and the 2MP secondary camera is for depth sensing.
The camera app comes with AI scene recognition. Through the software, it can detect food, grass, snow, pets, sunsets, among other scenes. The accuracy percentage is good enough.
The camera app also has three major modes like Photo, Portrait, and Video. Chrome Boost HDR and flash settings are also there. The Chrome Boost is like an advanced HDR mode.
The hamburger menu of camera app has some shooting modes like Expert (manual settings), Time-lapse, Pano, Slow-motion, and Nightscape. Realme is touting the new AI-powered ‘Nightscape’ mode. Unfortunately, as per our camera test, we have found that Chroma Boost and HDR mode performing better than the Nightscape. So we may expect that Realme will improve it through a software update.
Let’s come to the selfie camera. There is a 13MP selfie camera with an f/2.0 lens. The camera is in the waterdrop notch cutout. There is no dedicated front flash or anything else fancy.
Without any fancy item, it is good enough to take nice selfies. The excellent HDR mode does their work and properly. The selfie cam also offers your favorite bokeh mode. Photos clicked with this effect are social networks ready. The AI-powered beautification mode is also there.
Apart from the rear-mounted fingerprint scanner Realme 3 includes Face Unlock, 3D face recognition, Proximity sensor, Accelerometer, Ambient light sensor, and Gyroscope.

Processor And Performances
Realme 3 houses a MediaTek Helio P70 processor. The P70 CPU has 4xA73 cores and clocked at 2.1GHz. For outside India users, Realme 3 will have MediaTek Helio P60 processor. It is powered by Mali-G72 MP3 GPU.
The performance of the GPU, it is quite impressive and it is just below the Redmi Note 7 on benchmark test. The Realme 3 beats everything in its price bracket when it comes to graphics because of its lower screen resolution.
This phone is not for hardcore gamers. But you can enjoy some gaming on this budget.
Software
The Realme 3 is the first smartphone to run on Oppo’s latest Color OS 6. The ROM is based on Android 9 Pie. The new OS looks very clean with easy app layouts.
The new Color OS is focused on a light color scheme. Through the OS you will see a white backdrop with light color gradients. This also uses a new font style, Oppo Sans.
Like other major OS, Color OS is getting an app drawer. It will be reflected in the upcoming Oppo phone. But it is available in Realme 3 by default.
ColorOS 6.0 has a built-in machine learning system that will freeze apps in the background instead of completely closing them. Using machine learning, it will analyze your app activity for 2 weeks and try to learn your habits in the day to day life.
The fingerprint sensor is always-on. You can also use face unlock in addition to fingerprint for more security. Both are fast and accurate.
Battery And Connectivity
The Realme 3 is powered by a big 4,230 mAh battery. It has the same capacity as the Realme 2 was.
The battery supports regular 5V/2A charging. 10W charger restores 30% of battery in 40 minutes. At least we don’t have to expect more in this price range.
The combination of Android 9 and a low-resolution display is going to give you some serious longevity in battery life.
In certain battery test, The Realme 3 scored an excellent result. According to the test, it has a 108-hour Endurance rating.
Connectivity options include in Realme 3 are Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, micro USB, 3G, and 4G.
RAM And Storage
Realme 3 comes in two different variants. The base variant is 3GB RAM + 32GB internal storage and the high-end variant has 4GB RAM + 64GB internal storage option.
You expand the memory up to 256GB via SD card slot.

In first sight, Realme 3 seems and feels like a budget phone. But the market is already competitive in this price bracket and Realme 3 have missed some key points. To be honest, it is a good phone in this range and will cross some milestones of its precursors as well.
USB type-C post and the 1080p display would feel the Realme 3 more modern. We are getting strong rumors that indicating the release of Realme 3 Pro. Some reports clam that it will arrive in April this year. We can expect these upgrades in the upcoming Realme 3 Pro.
